Why do some cats scratch at my stuff?
Often this is just their nature, cats have claws and they like to keep them in good shape, even if they have never really used them to catch prey, they need to keep them sharp ready for the next time they use them for climbing, keeping their bodies in check when negotiating obstacles
Think how she walks along the top of a narrow item like a fence panel, this is done using excellent balance and yep relying of her claws. If she slips she will rely on her claws to pull herself back up
Keeping these claws exercised means that they can rely on them for them for the pulling force that is made when cats climb up things
Keeping them sharp also helps them penetrate thing like wood (or curtains!) so that she can then climb up, they really work like a climbers' crampons and the scratching at items that feel good helps keep everything working well, it also feels nice to her, a little like us having a good stretch!
